About Hundo

One honest ledger for the whole family.

We are building the app we wished our own families had — a single, private place where an Indian household’s money actually adds up, and where the important papers stop hiding in drawers and inboxes.

Why we started

Nobody knew the whole number.

In most Indian homes the money is real but the picture is scattered — the bank app, the EPFO portal, a demat login, an LIC receipt, a PPF passbook, gold in the locker. Ask what the family is actually worth and the honest answer is nobody knows. The premium that lapsed last month, the FD that matured unnoticed, the policy nobody could find when it mattered — every one of those is the same missing ledger.

We watched parents keep it all in their heads and a fat folder, and knew that folder does not pass on well. Hundo exists so a family has one true figure and one safe shelf — reconciled, dated, and ready the day someone needs it.

What we believe

Private first, always.

A finance app that shows ads or quietly sells your data has its incentives pointed the wrong way. So we drew a hard line: Hundo has no ads and never sells your data.Your records stay in India, on Google Cloud’s Mumbai region, behind a lock only your family opens. Aadhaar, PAN and account numbers are redacted before any AI ever reads them. We would rather earn a subscription than trade your privacy — that is the whole design.

Who’s building it

Built by Akash Rajagopal.

Hundo is built by Akash Rajagopal, an engineer with South-India roots and the same drawer of forgotten policies as everyone else. It is named for the Hundo Vata — the imperishable fig — because that is what a family ledger should be: something that endures and passes on. We are a small effort building carefully, opening families in small batches so we get it right rather than big.
